Doug & Janet – 60th wedding anniversary!

Congratulations to Doug and Janet Wiliamson, who celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary today, 31st of May. They will be partying tomorrow afternoon with family and friends to mark the significant occasion and reflect on sixty happy and productive years together.

Dougie moved to Canada in January 1955, settling in Toronto and eventually moving in with a group of single male friends who enjoyed a very lively social existence in a large 3-storey house at 27 Dupont Street.

It was at one of 27 Dupont’s legendary parties that he met Janet, an artist and set designer. She had only recently arrived from Scotland. Dougie fell in love with Janet (and her cat, McTavish!), and having found a solid job at a firm of consulting engineers, he asked her to marry him.

Janet returned to Scotland for a time but Dougie kept writing and convinced her to come back …

Dougie and Janet married at the Unitarian Church on Sinclair, Toronto, on the 31st of May 1959.

Wishing them every happiness and many more anniversaries to come!

  1. Best wishes in your 60th Anniversary from Bath, England. My father Reg Smith flew as a rear-gunner with 75th NZ Squadron at Mepal.
